Meet Heather
Hi, I’m Heather Spatafora. I’ve taught for 25+ years in both general and special education. I’m a certified special education teacher. I also have ABA training and have worked with students on the autism spectrum, both in person and remotely. I specialize in tutoring students with disabilities to support their progress, and I work with these students online with a proven track record of success.
I’ve been tutoring special education students remotely for several years. Online learning feels natural in my sessions, and my students enjoy the resources I can provide through this platform. Students already use online learning and digital assignments every day in school, so it makes sense to keep building those skills the same way at home.
I meet your child where they are, break skills into clear steps, and build confidence along the way. I also work to integrate your child’s IEP goals into our sessions, fostering a partnership between home and school.
After every session, I provide data and observations for your records. I’m also happy to connect with your child’s teachers to help meet learning needs and build study skills. You’ll have access to the individualized resources I use during each session, so you can support your child at home. Homework can be incorporated into sessions as well, so your child gets time to finish it with help.

Common questions
What subjects do you tutor?
Math from elementary through Algebra, ACT and SAT tutoring, reading support including Orton-Gillingham for dyslexia, and homework help.
Do you offer a dyslexia program?
Yes. I’m Orton-Gillingham Academy certified. Orton-Gillingham is a research-based dyslexia reading program that uses a structured, multisensory approach to help students build reading and spelling skills step by step. Because it’s an individualized, systematic approach to teaching reading to students with dyslexia, it isn’t available in most schools.
Can online tutoring work for students with IEPs?
Yes. I’ve tutored special education students remotely for several years. I work your child’s IEP goals into our sessions and provide data and observations after every session.
What’s the difference between a fixed and flexible schedule?
A fixed schedule keeps the same days and times every week. A flexible schedule lets you pick new times each week from whatever is open.
Why are 2 sessions a week recommended?
Meeting twice a week gives students regular practice without long gaps, which helps new skills stick.
How does small group tutoring work?
Your child shares sessions with 1 to 2 other students at $40 an hour each. I act as the point of contact between parents so everyone can agree on times. Each student joins from their own home on their own device, so students can be grouped by skill level and goals rather than by where they live. Headphones help keep the group focused, and I manage the group so each child still gets individual attention.
Do you offer evening sessions?
Yes. Evening sessions at 7:00, 8:00 and 9:00 PM Eastern are available for students and families who have activities in the afternoons and early evenings.
Which session length should I choose?
Younger students usually do best with 30 minutes to 1 hour. The 2-hour option is meant for older students.
What do we need for online sessions?
A computer or tablet with a camera, microphone and internet connection. Sessions use an easy Google platform that aligns with what students already use in school, and parents have access to the schedule and lesson resources.
How do I pay?
You can pay securely online by credit or debit card after you request your times. Payments are handled by a secure payment service, so your card number is never entered or stored on this site.
What if we need to cancel or reschedule?
Rescheduling is always free. Just choose a new open time. If you cancel a session instead of rescheduling, you’ll receive a 50% refund for that session.
